Work Zone Safety in Kentucky
Work zones are part of everyday travel across Kentucky. Crews work to build, repair, and maintain the roads that keep the state moving.
For Kentucky Association of Highway Contractors, work zone safety is a top priority. It’s about protecting the people who build Kentucky’s roads—and reminding every driver to slow down, stay alert, and help save lives.

Rep. Blanton’s Message on Work Zone Safety
KAHC worked hand in hand with Rep. John Blanton to pass the Jared Lee Helton Act, which allows the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to use speed cameras in work zones. Read about the law and how it will help keep motorists and workers safe in work zones in Rep. Blanton’s
In the 2025 legislative session of the Kentucky General Assembly, the legislature passed HB 664 – also known as the Jared Lee Helton Act – which allows automated speed monitoring devices to be used by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet in work zones.

Erica Jenkins – Louisville Paving
We’re proud to highlight road workers like Erica Jenkins, an equipment operator with Louisville Paving and Construction, an LPX Group Company. Slow down in work zones so all workers can make it home safely.
Travis Lawson – Haydon Bridge Company
For over two decades, Travis Lawson has helped build and improve roads across Kentucky with Haydon Bridge Company. We’re asking drivers to do their part: slow down, stay alert and respect the men and women working on our roadways.
Lucas Guinn – Mago Construction
We’re grateful to road worker Lucas Guinn of Mago Construction for sharing his story after being impacted by a work zone crash.
His experience is a reminder that work zones are active job sites where crews work just feet from traffic. Slow down, stay alert, and help keep everyone safe.
Honoring the Passage of HB 664
KAHC Executive Director Chad LaRue met with Chairman John Blanton to present him with a commemorative traffic cone to serve as a symbol of his leadership and work to get this critical piece of legislation passed. His relentless work to get this legislation passed is forever appreciated by our industry.
The inscription on the cone reads as follows:
